My Own Web

One of the collateral of our algorithm-filled streams is the fact that it changed how we consume content to a fast-paced shallow version of how we used to do until a decade or so ago.

I’m 41 now, so i was lucky to be a geek in the late 90’s and experience the golden era of the web when we were all hopeful that it would bring us all together based on our interests and that it would would allow anyone to find their own corner of the internet, free from harassments or distractions from.

One of the biggest difference at that time, is that, even though the web was virtually free, we had to invest time to create our “own web”, finding forums, websites and content that catered to our interests. Every song had a time invested to it (even if downloaded illegally for free) before we even listen to its first seconds. Every game bought in a store would be decided after some thoughts, and every content would be appreciated more fully, since depending on the topic, we knew we wouldn’t have thousands of other pages on the same subject to be found.

In the last decade i immersed myself fully on the traps of the cloud-based world, controlled by few technocrats and their algorithms. Suddenly I saw myself producing content for others, and having my own content been monetized and profiting someone else’s pockets. The music I listened was not mine anymore. My books were locked in a platform I did not control, and the movies I payed for to watch, were just lent to me.

So, as I approached my nerdy middle-life-crisis, I decided to take a stand and fight to bring back the old way of storing, consuming and producing content about the things I care about. There is not much I can leave to the world after I die, so it is time for me to leave a temporary mark on the web that can at least last longer than the Musks and Zuckerbergs of the world.

The first step is to stand my ground for my own web. So, i’m revamping my abandoned tbueno.com domain, were I expect to centralize my thoughts and web production in single place controlled by me and only me.
